Best WordPress Hosting in Kenya for Business Websites

DoWebsites Editorial Team 6 October 2026 10 min read

For a Kenyan business website, start with HOSTAFRICA WP Starter if you want built-in staging and easier recovery, or Truehost Starter if your priority is a smaller hosting budget and you can handle WordPress maintenance. For a heavier site, compare Hostinger Cloud Startup against a written resource quote from a local provider.

A five-page company website and a WooCommerce store need different plans. Choose around what happens when a plugin update breaks a form, a campaign brings visitors or a customer pays for an order.

Our starting recommendation

Business site with regular updates: shortlist HOSTAFRICA's dedicated WordPress offer. Its published features include staging, automatic updates and restore tools. Check the renewal invoice, including email, before committing.

Which WordPress host should you choose?

Your website Our starting shortlist What makes it relevant Confirm before buying
Company site with frequent design or plugin changes HOSTAFRICA WP Starter Dedicated WordPress dashboard, staging and restore features advertised Backup retention, restore charges, migration eligibility and email renewal
Small brochure site with a limited hosting budget Truehost WebHosting Starter cPanel, SSL, daily backups and installation tools listed Full billing term, restore procedure and who maintains WordPress
Heavier WordPress site or store needing more disclosed resources Hostinger Cloud Startup Published CPU/RAM allocation, daily and on-demand backups; cloud staging documented Server region, renewal term, resource limits and store compatibility

These are recommendations by use case. The evidence does not establish a fastest host or a universal performance winner. For a broader provider shortlist, use our hosting guide.

1. HOSTAFRICA: our first shortlist for built-in WordPress tools

HOSTAFRICA's WordPress plans advertise a site dashboard, staging copies, controlled automatic updates and backup restores. WP Starter lists 20 GB storage, two websites and five daily backups. Ask what that backup allowance means for retention and whether you can download an independent copy.

The distinction matters: its general DirectAdmin hosting and its dedicated WordPress product are separate offers. Buying the cheapest general hosting package does not establish that you receive the WordPress dashboard shown here.

Choose it when: you update your business website regularly and want a documented way to test changes before they reach customers.

Before paying: confirm whether your migration is included, what happens when a restore fails and whether support covers your specific plugin problem. The page says free migration is available with selected plans.

The annual checkout revealed an important email cost

The WordPress marketing page showed WP Starter at KSh 420 per month, renewing at KSh 560 per month. Its linked annual checkout produced a different quote: KSh 4,536 for the promotional hosting year and KSh 6,048 when the discount ends, before the observed proration.

That checkout also included two professional email accounts free for the first cycle, with an email renewal of KSh 8,337.60. Keeping both quoted hosting and email would therefore mean KSh 14,385.60 in listed recurring annual charges after the free email period. Confirm the final invoice, tax treatment and any domain renewal separately.

If you do not need those mailboxes, review the add-on before ordering. A hosting discount should not hide a larger recurring email bill.

2. Truehost: shortlist for a smaller hosting budget

Truehost's Kenya WordPress offer uses its web-hosting plans, with cPanel, an installer, automated SSL, daily backups and migration advertised. Starter lists 30 GiB SSD storage and support for ten websites.

Choose it when: you run a small business site and either maintain WordPress yourself or already have someone responsible for updates and recovery.

The displayed KSh 188 monthly equivalent requires KSh 6,768 upfront for three years. It is not a KSh 188 month-to-month subscription. For a shorter commitment, compare the selected annual offer in the hosting catalogue.

The Kenya WordPress page does not clearly establish an included staging workflow or a self-service restore allowance. Ask for those details rather than assuming cPanel supplies them. Also ask for CPU, memory and process limits; the number of websites allowed does not describe how many demanding sites an account can run well.

For wider brand and billing context, see our Truehost review and local comparison.

Check Truehost plansCompare the total billed amount across available terms before choosing the advertised monthly equivalent.

3. Hostinger: compare Cloud Startup for a heavier site

Hostinger's Cloud Startup page lists four CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe storage and 100 PHP workers. That gives a more concrete resource starting point for a heavier WordPress workload than storage alone.

Its WordPress pricing displayed US$7.99 per month for 48 months, US$383.52 paid upfront, renewing at a US$25.99 monthly equivalent. Keep the budget in USD until your payment provider supplies the exchange rate and fees.

Cloud Startup lists daily and on-demand backups. Hostinger's staging documentation supports Business web hosting or higher, including the cloud tier. It also explains that publishing a staging copy replaces live files and the database.

Choose it when: you need more disclosed resources and can sustain the renewal cost. A small brochure site may not need this level of spend.

Hostinger also sells lower-cost WordPress plans. Its Premium price card lists weekly backups; daily backups can require an upgrade or paid add-on. Confirm the exact plan's tools rather than treating every WordPress tier as equivalent.

What will you actually pay?

Selected offer Initial hosting commitment Renewal information observed Other costs to review
Truehost Starter, three-year term KSh 6,768 for 36 months Page displayed the same KSh 188 monthly equivalent Domain, maintenance and any paid extras
HOSTAFRICA WP Starter, annual checkout KSh 4,536 promotional annual amount; observed prorated hosting total KSh 4,473.86 KSh 6,048 hosting annually after discount Included email quoted KSh 8,337.60 at renewal; confirm domain and tax
Hostinger Cloud Startup, 48-month term US$383.52 for 48 months US$25.99 monthly equivalent; confirm renewal billing term FX/card fees, domain and email after free periods

The terms differ, so these are commitment comparisons rather than equivalent one-year invoices. HOSTAFRICA's quote was prorated to 1 October 2027. Your purchase date, selected add-ons and checkout may change the total.

Build your budget from hosting + domain + email + plugin licences + maintenance. If your developer sends one annual figure, ask which services it includes and whose account owns each subscription.

Four WordPress checks that matter more than the hosting label

1. Can you restore the website?

Ask how often files and databases are backed up, how many dated copies remain, who performs a restore and whether it costs extra. Keep an independent copy before major work. Hostinger's backup guide states daily backups are retained for seven days and weekly backups for six weeks.

A backup badge cannot tell you whether your latest contact submissions or orders are recoverable. Before moving an important site, agree on the restore process with whoever maintains it.

2. Can you test updates safely?

Staging lets you check a plugin, theme or PHP change on a copy. Confirm how that copy is created, kept private and published. Test the enquiry form, booking flow and key mobile pages before releasing changes.

For a live store, avoid pushing an old staging database over new orders. Agree on a deployment process that preserves live transactions.

3. Who maintains WordPress?

“Managed” needs a written scope. Ask who updates core, plugins and themes; who checks compatibility; and who repairs a broken integration. Hosting support and an ongoing developer maintenance agreement can cover different work.

If nobody owns these tasks, reserve part of your budget for maintenance rather than spending everything on a larger plan.

4. What happens under your workload?

Ask about CPU, RAM, PHP workers or process limits, database limits and upgrade options. Check the chosen server region. A Kenyan sales website does not by itself prove that the hosting server is in Kenya.

Measure your actual pages and workflows after setup. A cached homepage result cannot establish whether administration, search or checkout performs well.

Choosing hosting for WooCommerce in Kenya

For a store, start with the server recommendations for your WooCommerce version. The current document recommends PHP 8.3 or later, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6 or later, HTTPS and at least a 256 MB WordPress memory limit.

Then ask the provider to confirm the following for your catalogue and payment extensions:

  • Enough resources for checkout, product search and background order tasks.
  • Caching rules that preserve carts, checkout and customer sessions.
  • A backup schedule and recovery process appropriate to your order volume.
  • A safe way to deploy changes without losing new orders.
  • Support for the payment provider's callbacks and reliable order emails.

M-Pesa at the hosting checkout is a way to pay your hosting bill. Accepting M-Pesa from your own customers requires a compatible gateway, configuration and payment testing. Hosting alone does not provide that integration.

If you are still deciding whether to run WordPress, compare it with the alternatives in our platform guide.

Before you order: send this short brief

Give each finalist the same information: website type, plugins, catalogue size if applicable, usual traffic, campaign peaks and annual budget. Ask for the exact plan, first invoice, renewal invoice, resource allocation, backup retention, staging method and support scope.

For an existing site, add its storage size and email setup. Request a migration plan that preserves mail records, checks forms and allows you to test the new site before changing DNS.

Our choice: begin with HOSTAFRICA's dedicated WordPress plans for a business that values built-in operating tools. Choose Truehost for a smaller hosting budget with maintenance arranged. Compare Cloud Startup for a heavier workload when its resources and renewal cost fit. A busy store needs a workload review before any of these becomes a firm recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best WordPress hosting in Kenya for a small business?

Our starting shortlist is HOSTAFRICA's dedicated WordPress offer for staging and recovery tools, and Truehost Starter for a smaller hosting budget. Choose after confirming the selected plan's renewal invoice, resources and maintenance responsibilities.

Is shared hosting enough for WordPress?

It can be enough for a small company site with modest plugins and traffic. More demanding stores, bookings or membership sites need a resource assessment. Storage and advertised visitor counts alone are insufficient.

Does WordPress hosting include website maintenance?

Confirm the scope. Installation, automated updates and infrastructure support do not establish that a provider will redesign pages, debug every plugin or maintain a custom payment integration.

Should I choose the cheapest monthly price?

Compare the full prepaid amount and renewal costs. Include email, domain renewals and maintenance. The cheapest monthly equivalent can require a much larger payment today.

Can I move my WordPress website to a new host?

Usually, through a files-and-database migration. Confirm assistance and fees for your plan, save an independent backup and test pages, forms, checkout and mail before changing DNS.
